| What is BuaNews? BuaNews is a South African government news service, published by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS). The people of South Africa have a right to information, irrespective of their class, colour or creed. The Government has a mandate to ensure that its entire people have access to information. In order to make this possible, BuaNews was established to provide quick and easy access to articles and feature stories aimed at keeping the public informed about the implementation of government's mandate. An achievement of note for BuaNews was the clinching of a National Productivity Institute (NPI) Merit Award, in 2000, in recognition of the work it has done in disadvantaged communities. Our Mission: Continuously striving towards becoming the most efficient and dedicated channel, through which information reaches the most disadvantaged communities in South Africa. Our Vision: To create an awareness of news events, educate and bring information to those who do not have access to the mainstream media in an attempt to empower and provoke thought. What type of information does BuaNews distribute? It helps ensure wider dissemination of government information to provide citizens with the opportunity to gain access to development information and qualitative content to ensure that they are better informed to become active participants in the evolving process of social change. BuaNews provides the media with information related to developmental issues, health,education, service delivery, finance, government transformation, transport, defence, and welfare, among others. In addition, BuaNews features articles on community and people-centred initiatives that are aimed at improving or uplifting the quality of lives of the citizenry. How does BuaNews benefit communities? With three deadlines a day, BuaNews has become a fast, reliable and accurate government news and information service. BuaNews is posted online, emailed and faxed to community radio stations and print media, government communicators, freelance writers, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), news editors of the mainstream media, both pri nt and electronic, news agencies, missions and foreign media. Do I have to pay in order to receive BuaNews? Our clients receive information of the highest quality and standard at no cost. BuaNews is not profit-orientated and functions without advertising. What do I need to do in order to receive BuaNews? If you would like to subscribe to receive your free BuaNews editions via e-mail or fax, or if you would like to send us valuable information that we can use in our editions, please contact us. Any questions, comments and or suggestions on how we can improve our news service will be appreciated. Is BuaNews a government propaganda tool? Certainly not. The public's right to have access to government information is firmly entrenched in the constitution.
