Compiled by the Government Communication and Information System Date: 29 Jul 2008 Title: Beijing Games will be spectacular - IOC -------------------- Beijing - The Beijing Olympics will go down in history as one of the most spectacular games, said Kevan Gosper, a senior member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday. With exactly 10 days before the opening of the Beijing Games, organisers are putting final touches on the preparations, and Mr Gosper, who arrived in the Chinese capital Monday, said that Beijing already looked ready for the August event. "Everything possible to ensure the athletes compete under the best circumstances has been done. "There's been a huge investment in the city and the infrastructure which I think will be a great legacy for the city. "There's been huge amount of work done on air quality improvement, and there has been dramatic air quality improvement. "I watched the whole process, and I am very confident that these games will be absolutely spectacular," added the 75-year-old Australian who has joined the IOC since 1977. Mr Gosper, who is also the chairman of the IOC's press commission, also praised Chinese organisers' efforts to provide the best facilities to the accredited media. "The establishment of the MPC [Main Press Center] and the IBC [International Broadcasting Center] are similar to the preparations of the venues. "They are the first-class facilities for the media," said Mr Gosper. "As I walked around at the MPC this morning, I heard no complaints but many compliments to the Beijing organising committee and Beijing people for these quality facilities." - BuaNews-Xinhua |
