Compiled by the Government Communication and Information System Date: 25 Aug 2008 Title: SADC satisfied with Angola's election preparations -------------------- Luanda - Observers from the Southern African Development Community (SADC have expressed satisfaction at Angola's preparations towards their legislative elections on 5 September. SADC Executive Secretary Tomas Salomao of Mozambique told the media at the weekend that that the SADC would be deploying around 200 observers representing all the member states. He stressed that the observer team would be made up of government officials, representatives of civil society and of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), who would cover the whole country, making contact with different players of the Angolan electoral process. Other observers from governments and international and regional organisations are expected in Angola to follow up on the 5 September legislative elections, whose electoral campaign started on 5 August. Observers from the European Union are already in Angola working in various provinces of the country. The MPLA, UNITA, PRS, PDP-ANA, PLD, PAJOCA, FNLA, PRD, PADEPA and FpD political parties and the coalitions PPE, FOFAC, Angola Democratica and Nova Democracia are contesting the legislative elections. - BuaNews-NNN |
