Compiled by the Government Communication and Information System Date: 19 Oct 2008 Title: Motlanthe to lead SADC Organ Troika meeting in Swaziland -------------------- Mababane - South African President and Chairperson of SADC, Kgalema Motlanthe, will on Monday attend the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika Meeting scheduled for Mbabane, Swaziland. The meeting, convened by King Mswati III, is expected to receive and deliberate upon reports on the current political situation in Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo and Lesotho. The President will be supported by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma. President Thabo Mbeki, the SADC-appointed facilitator in Zimbabwe, is expected to brief the meeting on the ongoing efforts by the SADC facilitation team to reach a lasting solution to the power-sharing negotiations in that country. Zimbabwe's main political leaders have been disagreeing on the allocation of Cabinet portfolios in a proposed inclusive government. The talks, which began on Tuesday, were adjourned on Friday with the parties involved optimistic of an eventual breakthrough. The SADC Heads of State summit is to be held early next year. - BuaNews |
