Title: Gauteng residents encouraged to register to vote
--------------------

Johannesburg - A voter registration road show was held in Gauteng on Saturday to encourage residents to ensure they are registered to vote in next years elections.

The Gauteng Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) toured Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Pretoria in a double-decker bus to ensure people would make use of the opportunity next weekend to register.

The public, aged 16 and above, must register or check to see if they are on the voters roll during the registration weekend on 8 and 9 November. A total of 2234 voting stations across Gauteng will be opened from 8am to 5pm.

IEC officials and popular radio DJs from Soshanguve Community Radio and Jozi FM visited the various informal settlements in the province on a double-decker bus to not only entertain the public but also give advice to those who want to participate in the coming 2009 National and Provincial Elections.

Voter registration takes place continually at all local Municipal Electoral offices Monday to Friday during office hours.

SMS your ID number to 32810 to check whether you are registered to vote or call 0800 11 8000. - BuaNews
