Title: ANC reaches 5 million mark

Pretoria - With more than one third of the votes counted in the country's 2009 General Elections, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) is racing ahead of other parties.

Out of the seven-and-a-half million votes already counted, the ANC leads the 2009 General Elections nationally with 5 158 787 votes.

Results coming in at the Independent Electoral Commission's results centre show the party is also winning the race in eight of the country's provinces.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is tailing on the leader board nationally with 1 271 104 votes and in third place is the new kid on the block Cope with 617 220 votes.

The IFP is in fourth position with 245 587 votes, followed by the ID with 94531 and the UDM with 92273 votes.

The Freedom Front Plus has clinched 69838 votes. - BuaNews
