Title: ANC hold celebratory party
--------------------

Johannesburg - The African National Congress and thousands of supporters have held a celebratory party at the party's headquarters Albert Luthuli House in Johannesburg.

Streets were blocked off from early in the afternoon to make way for buses and minibuses transporting members and supporters of the ANC's presidential candidate Jacob Zuma.

Johannesburg's Metropolitan Police had warned motorists and businesspeople working in the city centre to avoid the area as it would be heavily congested.

The supporters, numbers in the thousands, crammed Sauer Street singing jubilantly.

Mr Zuma, wearing a black jacket with the party's green and yellow colours, thanked the crowd for their support.

He said that they had fought and won the good fight before singing a song about struggling through difficulties.

The ANC has won the majority of the votes which are still being counted at the Independent Electoral Commission's Results Operation Centre in Pretoria.

A short while ago the party had a 65 percent majority over the other parties. - BuaNews
