Compiled by the Government Communication and Information System Date: 22 Oct 2009 Title: Cabinet supports strategic direction of dept -------------------- Pretoria - Cabinet supports the policy and strategic direction the Department of Home Affairs is taking with regards to improving service delivery. Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma briefed an ordinary Cabinet meeting on Wednesday on the department's progress towards improving service delivery. Government spokesperson Themba Maseko on Thursday said the department was looking at making it compulsory for all citizens to register their births and acquire identity documents and well as extending the late registration of births by one year to 2010. Cabinet also expressed is support for the department to engage the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and other relevant countries with a view to developing and implementing strategies to manage migrants and refugees within the respective countries in order to enhance security and development. "The department will also interact with business, labour and other stakeholders to discuss policy approaches to economic migrants," said Maseko. - BuaNews |
