Title: Hotline to ensure access to chronic medication
--------------------

Pretoria - A call centre has been established by the national Department of Health to provide assistance to patients who are on chronic medication and are encountering difficulties accessing their treatment during the ongoing public service strike.

The centre, which forms part of government's response to the ongoing strike action by public sector workers, will provide assistance and guidance to all patients on chronic medication, including antiretroviral treatment, Tuberculosis medicine, diabetes, hypertension and epilepsy.

"The agents will advise and direct callers on where they can access such treatment," the department said.

The centre will operate from 7am to 5pm daily. The centre's numbers are 0800012322 or 012 395 9078/79/80/81/87/88/89/90.

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has expressed concern around disruptions in the treatment for HIV and AIDS patients noting that such disruptions could expose patients to extreme danger including death. - BuaNews
