Compiled by the Government Communication and Information System Date: 11 Jan 2012 Title: Nigerian state declares curfew over subsidy protest Ibadan - The government of Nigeria's southwest state Oyo on Tuesday imposed a 12-hour curfew due to the fuel subsidy protest with immediate effect. A local government statement said the curfew, which takes effect from 7pm to 7am, was to ensure security for lives and property. Some troublemakers under the sponsorship of certain politicians, said the statement, had been hiding under the ongoing protests to threaten the security of the state, especially at night. The government had instructed security agencies to apprehend and prosecute anyone who contravened the curfew.
