Title: SAPS investigates Kruger Park flats death

Pretoria - The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the cause of death of a man who died after falling from a building at the Kruger Park flat complex in Tshwane yesterday.

According to the City of Tshwane spokesperson Console Tleane, the incident happened just around 5:30pm.

"It is suspected that the man had by-passed security officers at the flats and was attempting to steal some iron or copper parts at the high-rise buildings situated in the west of the Tshwane CBD," he said.

The Tshwane Metro Police responded to the incident and were joined by the South African Police Service at the scene.

Tleane said the actual details of the incident were still not known, however, it was suspected that the man slipped while he was on one of the top floors.

He went down through to the bottom floor where he landed on iron rods that pierced through his body. He died instantly.

Both the Kruger Park and adjacent Schubart Park flats, which are owned by the City of Tshwane, will be imploded after being found to be structurally unfit for human habitation.

The Kruger Park flats were evacuated in 2008 after a fire gutted some of the floors in the buildings.

The identity and correct age of the man are still not known. - BuaNews
